Each month starts with a new moon, and each phase lasts 4 days.

On Magic
Black Magic - fire, ice, lightning, contains a lot of damaging magic
White Magic - water, air, earth, contains a lot of healing magic
Red Magic - balancing black and white
Black & White Mages - pull aether from the world around them, actively destructive
Other forms of magic draw upon the personal aether that make up a person rather than ambient aether.
Aether is ambient and varies in concentration from place to place. It's essentially the idea of energy in the world.
On Writing
Eorzean script is basically a very stylized English.

There is also a modified Japanese script, called Hingan.

On The Deities
They are collectively referred to as the Twelve. For more information, look here or here.
Nald'thal is actually a double god comprised of the brothers Nald and Thal.
There are common phrases such as what we would say - Nald's balls, by the grace of Menphina, may Nophica smile upon you, Llymlaen guide you, etc.
Regarding the Warriors of Light and deities:
Hydaelyn - the "goddess" of light, the mother crystal, the planet we live on. Benevolent. Good. Balance.
Zodiark - the "god" of darkness, the opposite of Hydaelyn. Chaos. Disorder. Darkness. Evil.
Zodiark was locked away by Hydaelyn. Ascians are the agents of Zodiark who work to free Zodiark from his prison. Hydaelyn and Zodiark are not worshiped by the commonfolk. It is not really expanded upon how much the commonfolk now of Hydaelyn and Zodiark, but they are a very big deal to the Warriors of Light and associated people (such as the Scions of the Seventh Dawn).
